The new year is nearly upon us, and with it comes a fresh start. So many people use this time to set goals and resolutions, but oftentimes, those resolutions are so broad that they are almost unattainable. If you are looking to make a health-related resolution this year, consider making several small goals to help you take the steps you need toward healthy living.

Go walking more often

Walking is a great way to start introducing some light cardio into your everyday routine.

Get more sleep

Getting the right amount of sleep for your body is key to better physical and mental health. In fact, lack of sleep has been linked to high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, heart disease and kidney disease, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Drink more water

Keeping yourself properly hydrated allows your body to perform better throughout the day. If you do not drink enough water throughout the day, you may feel tired or dizzy, which only hinders your productivity.

Cook for yourself

Cooking at home is usually both less expensive than eating out and healthier, as you have control of exactly what is going into the food you are eating.

Cut back on sugar

We all know that we should be eating less sugar. So, take steps to scale back your intake, whether that means kicking your soda habit, eating less processed foods or taking a step back from the dessert table.

Go to the doctor

Annual visits to the doctor can help find problems before they become too major. Be sure to schedule appointments with your general practitioner, dentist, dermatologist and any other doctors your health dictates you should see regularly.

Wear sunscreen

Protecting your skin from sun damage is extremely important. Not only is it the key to more youthful looking skin, but it also helps prevent against skin cancers.
