Nothing goes better with a hot summer day than a cold and refreshing mojito. The fresh muddled lime and mint paired with a good white rum will instantly transport you to a beach with white sand. The only downside to this cocktail is that it can get very sweet, very quick.
Some people use equal parts Sprite and club soda or club soda and simple syrup. A good substitution for both of those is quite simple and found in most pantries, honey. Honey is an excellent alternative to Sprite and simple syrup. Honey is also rich with vitamins and minerals and provides a lower glycemic index (it does not affect your blood-sugar levels as much as sugar does). Though honey has a slightly bigger calorie count, it is all around a better option than sugar.
Recipe:
- 2 oz. white rum
- 2 lime wedges
- 5-6 mint leaves
- 2 tbsp. fresh lime juice
- 2 tbsp. simple syrup
- Club soda
Instructions:
- Muddle lime wedges, mint, and white rum in your glass
- Add ice
- Add fresh lime juice and simple syrup then fill with club soda
Our Twist:
Just substitute the simple syrup with honey and you’re good to go!
