Jump Start Your Morning

Getting in a routine of practicing healthy habits can definitely improve your life in many ways. Not only can it improve your mood, but it can also help control your weight, increase your energy, expand your life span, and could prevent certain health conditions such as a heart attack or stroke. So, what are some healthy habits you should do every morning?

Drink a glass of water
After being asleep for 6+ hours, your body is dehydrated, so by drinking a glass of water when you first wake up, it not only rehydrates you, but it also starts up your digestive system. Warm water with lemon is also a great go-to habit as the lemon has added detoxing benefits.

Make your bed
Studies have shown that those who make their bed are more productive during the day. It is also a stress reliever because it is seen as a mindfulness exercise and it gives you a feeling of accomplishment that you can carry with you throughout the day.

Eat a healthy breakfast
Putting food in your body first thing in the morning gets your metabolism going and gives you the energy to get through the day. Oatmeal, eggs with toast or fruits and yogurt are great options because it gets in your fiber and/or protein. If you’re not a big breakfast eater, you can also try a smoothie or protein shake because it is a lighter alternative.

Meditate/Journal
Both meditating and journaling can help prevent anxiety and stress that you might encounter throughout the day. It also helps you get in tune with yourself and your thoughts, so your sense of awareness is tremendously better. Creativity is also enhanced during and after mediating or journaling.

Movement/Light exercise
It doesn’t have to be a killer workout, but getting in some movement in the morning, such as a walk with your dog, or some yoga will also kickstart your metabolism and get the blood flowing in your body. It puts your body in wake-up mode and it could lead to burning more fat throughout the day and lowering your blood pressure.
