4 Healthy Options for Your 4th of July Barbecue

By Morgan Hill

With America’s birthday approaching, there’s no need to lose your summer bod with all the temptations of a 4th of July barbecue. Check out these healthy alternatives and enjoy the fireworks!

Turkey Burgers

Grill up some turkey burgers instead of a regular hamburger. Ground turkey is a leaner meat than beef, making it a healthier alternative. Make sure the ground turkey you choose is turkey breast because it has less calories than the dark meat. For vegetarians, try a burger made of quinoa or tofu!

Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fries contain less sodium than normal french fries and are just as delicious! Cook them in an air fryer to eliminate unnecessary oils and calories! The hot-air circulation cooks your sweet potato fries to the perfect amount of crispy without smelling up your house.

Grilled Vegetable Kabobs

Fire up the grill to cook some kabobs that will keep your guests drooling. Create a colorful kabob with zucchini, mushrooms, yellow squash, baby tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and more! Marinate your veggies in some olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, basil, salt and pepper to give them extra flavor. Use these kabobs as a healthy alternative to baked beans or potato salad!

Berry Desserts

Skip the sweets and visit your local farmers market to pick up all your favorite blue and red fruits! Watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries can be incorporated into fruit salads and popsicles. Also, Cut the watermelon into stars with a cookie cutter to create festive finger foods.
