As we all know, the COVID-19 virus has taken over our newsfeeds recently, and for good reason! It is important to stay up to date with news about this virus so that we can stay safe and healthy. Here are some precautions that you can take to make sure that you and people you know can stay as healthy as possible during this pandemic.

Wash your hands

While this may seem like common sense, it is still something to be mentioned. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that you should wash your hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. You can find a very helpful graphic here that shows you the perfect technique. Also, use hand sanitizer while you are on the go as a quick germ eraser.

Social distancing

Many communities are taking social distancing measures already. “Social distancing measures are taken to restrict when and where people can gather to stop or slow the spread of infectious diseases,” according to the Public Health Department of Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System. “Social distancing measures include limiting large groups of people coming together, closing buildings and canceling events.” Try to stay away from large crowds and gatherings to lessen your chances of catching or spreading diseases.

Maintain healthy practices

Stay hydrated. Get lots of sleep. Stop smoking. Get natural sunlight every day. Drink alcohol in moderation. Practice good hygiene. All of these practices will contribute to you staying as healthy as you can.

If you feel sick, isolate yourself and call your doctor!

If you at any point start to feel sick or have flu-like symptoms, isolate/quarantine yourself and call your healthcare provider. This will lessen the chances of you spreading any virus to your peers or coworkers. Being honest with your doctor will allow them to better assess your situation.
