Sometimes you get on a career path when you are young and become so accustomed to working in that field, you never leave — even if you are unhappy. When is it time for a career change?
Well, surprise! You do not have to stay in a job or that field just because that is what you know. You can make a career or job change at any point in your life, but it is important to note the difference between the two. If you have worked in a few similar positions in the same field under different employers and you are still unhappy, it may be time for a career change. Maybe you are just unhappy with your employer, but you like the work you are doing, it is simply time for a job change. If you notice any of the following three signs, it may be time to switch things up.
1. Loss of purpose and passion
Even if you are not necessarily excited to go to work every day (who really likes getting up early?) you should feel like you have a purpose in your day-to-day work and take pride in what you do. If you do not, it may be time for a switch.
2. It is not your dream job
When someone asks you what your dream job, if you can answer with the job at which you are currently working, congratulations! But if you are constantly thinking about another job that you want to be doing, then make a change. Unless you are in a position in which you can eventually work your way up to your dream job, it is not worth sticking around when you are longing to do something else.
3. You are just there for the money, and it is not enough anymore
Even if you are making a good salary, if you are miserable at work you should find a new place of employment.
