Household Products

With natural, organic products becoming more mainstream, we have a dizzying array of options when it comes to grocery shopping. But living a natural lifestyle does not have to be complicated. With only a few ingredients, many items can be made at home from scratch. Below are a few of my favorite recipes for common household products.

All Purpose Cleaner

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup white vinegar (you can also use apple cider vinegar water)
  • 20–30 drops essential oil of your choice (I use a mixture of lemon and orange oil)
  • 1 glass multi-use spray bottle

Combine the water, vinegar and essential oils in the spray bottle. Shake vigorously before each use (separation is natural).

Wood Cleaner/ Polish

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ½ cups white vinegar
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 30–40 drops essential oil of your preference (I use lavender oil)
  • 1 glass multi-use spray bottle

Combine the water, vinegar, olive oil and essential oil in the spray bottle. Shake before each use.

Homemade Toothpaste

  • 1 cup organic coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons baking soda
  • 20 drops peppermint essential oil (you can also use eucalyptus, spearmint or a mixture of your preference)
  • Glass jar (I use 16-ounce mason jars)

Combine the coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint oil together in the glass jar and stir generously. Keep in a cool environment (60 F).

All Natural Mouthwash

  • 2 cups water
  • 3 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon tea tree oil
  • 15 drops peppermint oil (you can also use spearmint or eucalyptus oil)
  • Glass jar

Combine the water, baking soda, peppermint and tea tree oil in the glass jar and shake vigorously before each use (separation is natural).
