As of yesterday, May 4, Florida has stared the state’s reopening process with Phase One.

Governor Ron DeSantis explained that the state will be following a “Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step” plan in regards to reopening the state of Florida. Phase One of the plan will allow restaurants to reopen outdoor seating as long as the tables are six feet apart. Indoor restaurants and retail stores can open at 25% capacity. Elective surgeries can also resume. Schools will continue distanced learning, and rules for bars, gyms and personal services remain the same.

The CDC guidelines of physical distancing should remain during the state’s reopening process, and it is now required to wear face masks in Alachua County in public places like the grocery store. At-risk individuals should continue to avoid contact with people outside of the home.

The state of Florida met all State Gating Criteria that were necessary for the state to start the re-opening process which included a decrease in influenza-like illness visits, a declining positivity rate trend (of the virus) and a declining trend of overall cases.
