Updated May 20: The Alachua County Commission decided to reverse the decision to end the county-wide face mask ordinance. This decision was made after the county and city of Gainesville commissioners came together for a virtual meeting yesterday (May 19) at 3 p.m.

Gainesville city commissioners expressed their concerns with the ending of the ordinance, which lead to a revote to reestablish the ordinance in the county. Now, Alachua County is back under the ordinance to require face masks while in public places in Alachua County.

Updated May 19: Today in an Alachua County commission meeting, the commissioners decided by a 3 to 2 vote to end the ordinance that required the use of a face mask while in public areas in the county.

Please note that this ordinance has been ended in Alachua County, but not specifically in the city of Gainesville. Check back in with the city of Gainesville to learn more about city changes.

The face mask ordinance was originally put in place at the beginning of May in response to Phase One of reopening Florida.
