Many places in Gainesville are collecting money to support Floridians during this uncertain time, but UF Health Shands is also looking for a different kind of donation. They’re currently looking for donations of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and food, as well as funds.
When COVID-19 took the world by storm, many went out to purchase their own PPE items such as face masks, and while it’s good to be protected, it also left the medical field at a loss for supplies. To cope with this, UF Health is asking the public for any PPE they’re able to provide.
They are currently accepting the following:
- Masks (N95, surgical and procedure) – Learn How to Make Masks
- Face shields (including goggles or eye shields)
- Disinfecting wipes such as Clorox or Sani-cloth wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- Isolation or surgical gowns
- CAPR/PAPR equipment and disposables
For drop-off locations and more information about donating PPE, you can visit their website here.
According to their website, they are also currently accepting food donations that are prepared in commercial kitchens, such as restaurants, catering businesses and food trucks to help feed the nurses, doctors and team members that are serving on the frontline providing quality care for patients and working to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
If you want to give a money donation during this trying time, UF Health is offering the option to donate to their Coronavirus Response Fund that will be used to address critical needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including research, delivery of testing and treatment, epidemiological studies, vaccine development, prevention efforts and many more efforts.
Another available option is to give a donation to help the patients at UF Health. These generous gifts will be used to support patients in the areas of food, transportation, or lodging, for example.
Donations of any kind are welcomed and may be tax deductible.
